Housing

Adults with developmental disabilities can select from a variety of housing supports within the community where they choose to live. Choices range from independent living to minimally supported living to fully-staffed community living arrangements.

Additional Resources:

A Home of Your Own Guide walks prospective home owners through the complex process of buying a home, from the initial decision to make the purchase, through the steps for acquiring a mortgage, and finally, to life as a homeowner. The new guide introduces a "person centered approach" to homeownership, which places people with disabilities at the center of the decision-making process on issues affecting their personal lives and living situations.

The Center for Housing and New Community Economics (CHANCE) was established in March 2001. CHANCE's mission is to improve and increase access to integrated, affordable, and accessible housing coordinated with, but separate from, personal assistance and supportive services. CHANCE's purpose will be to offer alternatives to approaches that segregate, congregate, and control people with disabilities.
